Redispersible Polymer Powder (VAE/RDP)
Redispersible polymer powder can be quickly redispersed into an emulsion after contact with water. As the water evaporates, the polymer forms a flexible film that can support adhesion and durability in suitable dry-mix formulations. Final performance depends on the selected grade and the complete formulation.
PERFORMANCE
Redispersible polymer powder is a water-redispersible polymer modifier. After spray drying, the polymer is protected by polyvinyl alcohol and can redisperse when mixed with water. In a compatible dry-mix formulation, it may support adhesion, flexibility, cohesion and resistance after defined conditioning. Application suitability must be confirmed through finished-mortar testing.
TOUGHNESS
A compatible RDP may improve mortar flexibility and toughness by reducing brittleness in the hardened matrix. The result depends on the polymer grade, formulation, dosage, curing and test method. Verify compressive, flexural, deformation or impact targets in the finished mortar.
ADHESION
A suitable RDP may support adhesion and cohesion within the complete mortar system. Evaluate the actual substrate, binder, filler package, cellulose ether, water demand, curing and failure mode rather than relying on the powder name alone.
ABRASION RESISTANCE
Polymer modification may support abrasion resistance by improving cohesion in the hardened mortar matrix. The result is formulation-dependent and should be verified with a relevant finished-product test.
ALKALI RESISTANCE
Redispersible polymer powder is produced from a polymer emulsion by spray drying with a protective colloid and other processing aids. Grade selection should be based on application compatibility and controlled testing, including any required alkali-exposure conditions.
