Weak adhesion
Identify substrate suction, preparation and failure plane, then compare the complete formulation.
Hairline cracking
Review layer thickness, shrinkage, substrate movement and drying conditions together with flexibility.
Poor sanding balance
A harder surface is not always easier to finish; define both application and post-drying targets.
Low abrasion resistance

What RDP may contribute—and what it cannot replace
RDP is a polymer modifier. It can support selected cured properties, but it does not replace correct formulation design, HPMC rheology control, substrate preparation or finished-product testing.
Surface integrity
A compatible RDP may support cohesion and abrasion behavior in the cured layer.
Adhesion
Polymer modification may support bonding when substrate preparation and binder balance are suitable.
Crack tolerance
A less brittle matrix may tolerate limited movement, but shrinkage and layer design still need control.

No. Cracking can come from shrinkage, thick application, substrate movement, curing or formulation imbalance.
Does RDP replace cellulose ether?
No. HPMC mainly supports water retention and workability; RDP mainly modifies selected cured properties.
How should powdering be diagnosed?
Compare binder level, filler grading, water, curing and polymer level using the same preparation method.
Can the same grade serve interior and exterior putty?
Possibly, but exposure and performance targets differ and must be verified separately.
